U.S. Navy’s Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic (CHSCWL) to Optimize Health and Wellness

Partners with O2X to Pilot Human Performance Program Onboard Naval Station Norfolk

Norfolk, VA – In January 2024, the U.S. Navy’s Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic (CHSCWL) initiated a comprehensive wellness program onboard Naval Station Norfolk. Along with mental and physical performance-based training, the program includes full-time Human Performance Specialists, embedded at the wing, to assist in developing human performance initiatives and optimizing the performance of U.S. Navy sailors.

This program is being delivered by O2X Human Performance, a Massachusetts based training and education company founded by former Navy SEALs. O2X has worked with a variety of units across the Department of Defense and has designed programs for federal, state, and local agencies nationwide. They provide state-of-the-art training and education aimed specifically at helping tactical athletes finish their careers as strong as they started.

Recipients of the program are U.S. Navy Sailors within the Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) community – who provide personnel recovery, combat support, and airborne mine countermeasures. Boasting inherent versatility, the HSC rotary wing is full-spectrum warfighting community across multiple mission-sets and diverse platforms. The wing includes 9 squadrons flying more than 100 aircraft and is composed of over 4,000 officers, enlisted, and civilian personnel.

Through this partnership, HSC has launched the O2X Integrated Specialist Program (ISP) to lead the implementation and drive the impact of the O2X curriculum. The ISP places elite human performance professionals, who are experts in their fields, on-site at partnered organizations. Through this initiative, HSC Sailors have continued access to O2X’s Tactical Performance mobile app, quarterly assessments and reporting, as well as a dedicated member of O2X’s Client Services team to assist with program implementation.

The new training is about much more than just improving fitness. It takes a comprehensive approach to improving the overall ability to perform across all the modalities of cognitive, nutritional, and physical domains. As tactical athletes, Sailors endure physical and mental stress throughout their careers that can have acute and cumulative impacts to health. The U.S. Navy has taken an important step in combating these occupational hazards through partnership with O2X. Elements of conditioning, injury prevention, nutrition, fatigue management and sleep science, stress mitigation, sports psychology, and resilience will be delivered to sailors through O2X’s network of Human Performance Specialists and virtual resources.

“We’re confident the O2X curriculum will deliver immediate impact to the HSC community.” said Paul McCullough, Co-founder at O2X Human Performance. “It’s important that those defending our freedoms keep physical and mental wellness as a part of their daily lives. Our hope is that the O2X team can play a key role in supporting the HSC community through enhancing the performance of their sailors.”
