Meet Cayla, the O2X Tactical Athlete of the week
A Firefighter in Virginia Beach, Virginia, she is dedicated to health and wellness and serves as an inspiration for others. Her passion for excellence in fire and rescue within the community she serves, combined with her approach to a healthy lifestyle is what makes her our tactical athlete of the week. Here’s more from Cayla:
What got you into your profession:
I’ve been a firefighter/medic now for over 8 years. I started with the Newport News Fire Department and grew as a firefighter more than I could’ve ever imagined. My heart for technical rescue began there and took me through confined space technician, trench rescue technician, rope rescue technician, heavy vehicle rescue and even structural collapse school. I actually ended up leaving the NNFD to become a rookie again with the Virginia Beach Fire Department. A lot of people thought I was crazy for starting over, but I really saw it as an opportunity to learn and master the basics again.
What motivates you:
As firefighters, we are expected to be completely proficient at any moment. Our brothers working next to us, our families and those we’ve promised to serve deserve our very best. You must be passionate about this craft. You must practice it. You must master it. You can never be good enough for a job that can kill you.
Know someone who we should feature as a tactical athlete of the week?
