Meet Brit (@britneyholmberg): Firefighter and this week's Featured Tactical Athlete
What got you into your profession?
I have worked for Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (@citybrampton ) for 7 years. I am at the tech rescue station in the heart of the city, currently working towards building our Department’s urban heavy rescue team. I have no shame in saying, that I freaking love my job. Super cliche, but I feel that fire service is a calling. I’ve been drawn to the idea of it from an early age, especially when my “stunt person” idea came to an end (smart choice, as I am already a few concussions deep).
What motivates you?
I’m motivated to not only be a solid firefighter, but to be a solid all around athlete and team player. Sports and firefighting go hand in hand. I believe in constantly challenging myself and training to simply get better at whatever I’m passionate about. Right now, that’s surfing, mountain biking and Brazilian Jujitsu. Although I’m no longer competing in CrossFit, I’m committed to training functionally for my job so I can carry my own weight.
Know someone who we should feature as a tactical athlete of the week?
