Cigna Healthcare Brings Health & Wellness Training To Frederick County (MD) First Responders

O2X Human Performance to provide workshop for public safety officials

Frederick County, MDCigna Healthcare and O2X Human Performance are collaborating to support the health and wellness of first responders. In an effort to reduce healthcare costs and promote healthy lifestyles among first responders, Frederick County Division of Fire & Rescue Services (FCDFRS) will host a human performance workshop, delivered by Cigna Healthcare and O2X, on September 9th. This workshop brings a customized training curriculum to first responders in the Mid-Atlantic and is aimed at optimizing performance and increasing career longevity.

“First responders put their lives on the line to help all of us, so it is important that we support their physical and mental well-being and help them live longer, healthier lives,” said Bea Pfander, Vice president, Government & Education, Cigna Healthcare. “We are proud of our long collaboration with O2X to help improve the health and vitality of first responders across the country.”

Firefighters and other first responders face extraordinary challenges daily, leading to compounding stress over a 20+ year career. The curriculum provided at the workshop will aim to mitigate the impact of both mental and physical strain that can lead to behavioral health issues, fatigue, and burnout. O2X has successfully collaborated with hundreds of public safety agencies nationwide, including a full-time program within FCDFRS, to provide state-of-the-art training aimed specifically at helping first responders finish their careers as strong as they started.

“We are excited to partner with O2X Human Performance to bring this incredibly valuable workshop to our team at Frederick County Fire and Rescue,” said Tom Coe, Fire Chief for Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services. “This collaboration highlights our commitment to the well-being of our first responders, equipping them with vital tools to enhance both their physical and mental health. By investing in their performance and resilience, we not only strengthen our team but also ensure we can continue to serve and protect the Frederick County community with the highest level of readiness and care.”

Over the course of the workshop, participants will learn how small, incremental changes can lead to sustainable performance and lifestyle improvements. The topics to be covered include strategies to mitigate the risk of injury, tools to enhance performance under pressure and manage high stress jobs, and education on proper nutrition, sleep hygiene, and foundations of movement – all designed specifically to meet unique training needs of first responders.

“Cigna Healthcare has been instrumental in providing much needed resources to first responder populations within the O2X network,” said Paul McCullough, Co-founder at O2X Human Performance. “First responders must place importance on their physical health and mental well-being in order to best serve their communities. We’re confident this workshop will serve as a fundamental starting point for participants to further develop and strengthen their capabilities.”

The workshop will be held at 5370 Public Safety Place, Frederick, MD 21704 from 8am to 4pm.
