Chesterfield County (VA) Fire and EMS to Embed Human Performance Specialist
Partners with O2X Human Performance to optimize health and wellness
Chesterfield County, VA – Beginning in January of 2026, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS will expand their comprehensive wellness program to address career longevity and occupational performance. Along with frequent mental and physical performance-focused training, the program includes a full-time Human Performance Specialist, embedded in the department, to help firefighters and EMS personnel optimize holistic well-being.
The program is being provided by O2X Human Performance, a Massachusetts-based training and education company. O2X works with thousands of first responders and has designed programs for federal, state, and local agencies nationwide. They provide state-of-the-art training and education aimed specifically at helping tactical athletes finish their careers as strong as they started.
As tactical athletes, firefighters and EMS personnel risk their lives daily to keep their communities safe. They endure physical and mental stress throughout their careers that can have acute and cumulative impacts on health. Chesterfield County Fire and EMS has taken an important step in mitigating these occupational hazards by partnering with O2X. Through this partnership, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS will launch the O2X Integrated Readiness Platform (IRP) to lead the implementation and drive the impact of the O2X curriculum. The IRP places elite human performance professionals, who are experts in their fields, on-site at partnered organizations. Through this initiative, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS will receive access to O2X's virtual resources, quarterly assessments and reporting, as well as a dedicated member of O2X's Human Performance Integration team to assist with program implementation.
“Chesterfield Fire and EMS is dedicated to delivering high‑quality, all‑hazards risk reduction, emergency response, and recovery services. At the heart of that mission is our commitment to the health, safety, and well‑being of our personnel. Every call requires our members to be well‑trained, properly equipped, and physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared so that’s why we have partnered our wellness staff with O2X Human Performance”.
The O2X On-site Specialist (OSS) serving Chesterfield specializes in physical therapy services and provides support to Chesterfield’s Human Performance Specialist in the delivery of their physical conditioning and injury reduction program. The O2X OSS provides support through their education and professional experience, as well as the resources of the entire O2X Human Performance network, to deliver training programs that prepare tactical athletes for the rigors of their professions. These experts incorporate elements of conditioning, injury prevention, and nutrition to support Chesterfield’s health and wellness initiatives.
"We're excited to partner with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS," said Adam La Reau, Co-founder at O2X Human Performance.
