
Deanna Busteed
Deanna Busteed, is a highly experienced performance dietitian, educator, and wellness professional with more than two decades of expertise in sports nutrition, clinical care, and human performance. She currently serves as a Performance Dietitian at the Intrepid Spirit Center at Fort Belvoir, where she provides integrative, evidence-based nutrition support to active-duty service members managing traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, and post-traumatic stress disorder. She also works with O2X Human Performance, delivering science-backed nutrition education to tactical athletes across military, federal, and public safety populations.
Deanna’s career spans collegiate athletics, healthcare, and private practice. She spent nearly a decade as a Sports Dietitian at George Mason University, supporting Division I student-athletes through medical nutrition therapy, performance fueling strategies, and interdisciplinary care. She continues her work at the university as a Senior Fellow in the Center for the Advancement of Wellbeing and as Adjunct Faculty, teaching Sport and Exercise Nutrition. Her additional experience includes dietetic roles in an orthopaedics and physical therapy practice, hospital-based clinical nutrition, and consulting with athletes and individuals managing complex conditions such as eating disorders, RED-S, and nutrient deficiencies.
Deanna is passionate about translating science into practical strategies that enhance health, resilience, and performance. She takes a holistic approach to care, integrating mindful and intuitive eating principles alongside physical training and recovery. In addition to her nutrition work, she is a registered yoga teacher and trauma-informed mindfulness instructor, incorporating mind-body practices to support overall well-being.
Deanna holds a Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island, where she competed as a Division I swimmer. She is an active contributor to research, publications, and national presentations on sports nutrition, wellness, and performance.
