Dorette Franks, MS, RDN, is an O2X Nutrition Specialist. As a board-certified Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Dorette graduated with honors, earning a Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance from Logan University, completed a dietetic internship through Iowa State University, received a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from San Francisco State University, and holds coaching certifications on behalf of USA Triathlon and USA Track & Field.Dorette has worked in the field of nutrition and human performance since 2004. Following the completion of her first Ironman New Zealand in 2001, she quickly established her career as an endurance coach. In 2005, she led as head coach for the San Francisco Nike Women’s Marathon and has continued to coach runners and triathletes to successful Boston Marathon qualifications and Ironman finishes. Dorette is a six-time Ironman finisher, placing 1st in division and 3rd overall female at the Full Vineman, division winner at Ultraman Canada, a three-time Boston Marathon qualifier/racer, and represented Team USA at the USA Triathlon Long Course World Championship. As a clinical sports dietitian she’s worked alongside cardiologists, exercise physiologists, strength trainers, and coaches integrating nutrition support to ultra-cyclists, ultra-runners, and triathletes as they face the most rigorous endurance events, including the Race Across America (RAAM), the Ultraman World Championship, the Ironman triathlon. Dorette addresses performance and health through functional and integrative practices using evidence-based approaches. Her expertise includes pairing nutrition with physiological data (V02, RMR, substrate utilization), biochemical and metabolite testing, sweat and hydration analysis, nutrition for body composition and weight management, mental health (and addiction), gut-health/the gut-brain axis, as well as the menstrual cycle & peri/post-menopause nutrition.Dorette is passionate to impart her knowledge and expertise to others. Her nutrition tips and coaching plans have been published on behalf of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Sports Cardiovascular & Wellness Nutrition (SCAN), Triathlete, Runner’s World, Shape, and Women’s Health Magazines. She also conducts speaking events for first responders, in corporate health, universities, and sports events.In her free time, Dorette can be found enjoying open water swims (minus the wetsuit) in San Francisco Bay, riding her bike beyond Mt. Tamalpais, and running the trails with her golden retriever, Leela, who is training to become a First Responder Therapy Dog.
