
Matthew Cook
Matthew Cook is an O2X On-Site Human Performance Specialist supporting the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), where he specializes in Strength and Conditioning. In this role, he enhances the physical readiness and performance of academy recruits and sworn personnel through evidence-based training methods tailored to the unique demands of law enforcement. His responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing individualized training programs, and providing ongoing support to optimize performance and reduce injury risk.
With more than 15 years of experience in strength and conditioning, Matthew is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Tactical Strength & Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F). He is also the founder of The Forge in Brentwood, California, a specialized training facility serving athletes and tactical professionals, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and military personnel. Through customized programming, Matthew helps individuals build the physical readiness, mental toughness, and resilience required to perform in high-stakes environments.
In addition to his human performance expertise, Matthew spent over a decade supporting national security and defense initiatives at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). His work included roles as an Optical-Mechanical Technologist, Fiber Optic Draw Tower Engineer, and Missile & Space Intelligence Analyst, where he provided technical assessments of foreign weapons capabilities and collaborated with Department of Defense and intelligence community partners. Matthew holds a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from Azusa Pacific University, completed graduate coursework toward an M.S. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Davis, and is the author of Forged by the Father. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, seven children, and giant schnauzer, as well as pursuing his passion for powerlifting.
